Sincerity. The clearest statement of who God is: One, needing nothing, not born, not giving birth, and like no one.

  • Tawhid: the Oneness of God

What it’s about

Al-Ikhlas answers the question “Who is your Lord?” in four short ayat: God is One; God is as-Samad, the One everything depends on while He depends on nothing; He was not born and does not give birth; and nothing is comparable to Him.

Why it matters for you

The Prophet ﷺ said this surah is equal to a third of the Quran (Sahih al-Bukhari 5013). If a friend asks what Muslims believe about God, this surah is the answer.
