The Daybreak. A prayer for protection from harm outside you: the dark, harmful magic, and envy.
- Seeking God's protection
What it’s about
Al-Falaq and the next surah, an-Nas, are called al-Mu’awwidhatayn, the two surahs of seeking refuge. Al-Falaq asks God, Lord of the daybreak, for protection from the harm in what He created, from the darkness of night, from those who practise harmful magic, and from the envier when he envies.
Why it matters for you
The Prophet ﷺ used to recite these surahs for protection, including before sleeping. They are short enough to memorise in a day.
