83. Al-Mutaffifin

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ ۝١

وَيۡلٌ لِّلۡمُطَفِّفِيۡنَۙ‏ ۝١

83:1 Woe to the curtailers

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ ۝٢

الَّذِيۡنَ اِذَا اكۡتَالُوۡا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسۡتَوۡفُوۡنَۖ‏ ۝٢

83:2 who, when they measure something to receive from people, take it in full,

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ ۝٣

وَاِذَا كَالُوۡهُمۡ اَوْ وَّزَنُوۡهُمۡ يُخۡسِرُوۡنَؕ‏ ۝٣

83:3 and when they measure or weigh something to give it to them, give less than due.

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ ۝٤

اَلَا يَظُنُّ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ اَنَّهُمۡ مَّبۡعُوۡثُوۡنَۙ‏ ۝٤

83:4 Do they not think that they have to be raised up

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ۝٥

لِيَوۡمٍ عَظِيۡمٍۙ‏ ۝٥

83:5 on a Great Day,

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ۝٦

يَّوۡمَ يَقُوۡمُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَؕ‏ ۝٦

83:6 the Day when all the people will stand before the Lord of the worlds?

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ ۝٧

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الۡفُجَّارِ لَفِىۡ سِجِّيۡنٍؕ‏ ۝٧

83:7 Never! (i.e. they should never act in such a way.) Indeed the record of deeds of the sinners is in Sijjīn .

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ ۝٨

وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا سِجِّيۡنٌؕ‏ ۝٨

83:8 And what may let you know what Sijjīn is?

كِتَٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ ۝٩

كِتٰبٌ مَّرۡقُوۡمٌؕ‏ ۝٩

83:9 A register, inscribed!

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝١٠

وَيۡلٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِيۡنَۙ‏ ۝١٠

83:10 Woe that day to the deniers,

ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ۝١١

الَّذِيۡنَ يُكَذِّبُوۡنَ بِيَوۡمِ الدِّيۡنِؕ‏ ۝١١

83:11 who deny the Day of Requital!

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ ۝١٢

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهٖۤ اِلَّا كُلُّ مُعۡتَدٍ اَثِيۡمٍۙ‏ ۝١٢

83:12 And none denies it but every sinful transgressor.

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ۝١٣

اِذَا تُتۡلٰى عَلَيۡهِ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِيۡرُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَؕ‏ ۝١٣

83:13 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “(These are) tales of the ancients.”

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ۝١٤

كَلَّا​ بَلۡ رَانَ عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ مَّا كَانُوۡا يَكۡسِبُوۡنَ‏ ۝١٤

83:14 No! But that which they used to commit has covered their hearts with rust.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ ۝١٥

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّهُمۡ عَنۡ رَّبِّهِمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لَّمَحۡجُوۡبُوۡنَ​ؕ‏ ۝١٥

83:15 No! Indeed they will be screened off from their Lord on that Day.

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ۝١٦

ثُمَّ اِنَّهُمۡ لَصَالُوا الۡجَحِيۡمِؕ‏ ۝١٦

83:16 Then they will have to enter the Hell.

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٧

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هٰذَا الَّذِىۡ كُنۡتُمۡ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوۡنَؕ‏ ۝١٧

83:17 Then it will be said, “This is what you used to deny.”

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ ۝١٨

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الۡاَبۡرَارِ لَفِىۡ عِلِّيِّيۡنَؕ‏ ۝١٨

83:18 No! The record of deeds of the righteous is in ‘Illiyyūn .

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ ۝١٩

وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا عِلِّيُّوۡنَؕ‏ ۝١٩

83:19 And what may let you know what ‘Illiyyūn is ?

كِتَٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ ۝٢٠

كِتٰبٌ مَّرۡقُوۡمٌۙ‏ ۝٢٠

83:20 A register inscribed,

يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ۝٢١

يَّشۡهَدُهُ الۡمُقَرَّبُوۡنَؕ‏ ۝٢١

83:21 attended by those (angels) who are blessed with nearness to Allah!

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ ۝٢٢

اِنَّ الۡاَبۡرَارَ لَفِىۡ نَعِيۡمٍۙ‏ ۝٢٢

83:22 Indeed the righteous will be in absolute bliss.

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ۝٢٣

عَلَى الۡاَرَآٮِٕكِ يَنۡظُرُوۡنَۙ‏ ۝٢٣

83:23 While (sitting) on thrones they will be watching (the scenes of Paradise).

تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ۝٢٤

تَعۡرِفُ فِىۡ وُجُوۡهِهِمۡ نَضۡرَةَ النَّعِيۡمِ​ۚ‏ ۝٢٤

83:24 You will recognize the glamour of bliss on their faces.

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ ۝٢٥

يُسۡقَوۡنَ مِنۡ رَّحِيۡقٍ مَّخۡتُوۡمٍۙ‏ ۝٢٥

83:25 They will be served with a pure sealed wine to drink,

خِتَٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ ۝٢٦

خِتٰمُهٗ مِسۡكٌ ​ؕ وَفِىۡ ذٰلِكَ فَلۡيَتَنَافَسِ الۡمُتَنــَافِسُوۡنَؕ‏ ۝٢٦

83:26 the seal of which will be of musk.-It is this (bliss) in aspiring for which the competitors should race each other.

وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ ۝٢٧

وَ مِزَاجُهٗ مِنۡ تَسۡنِيۡمٍۙ‏ ۝٢٧

83:27 -and it will be blended with (a drink from) Tasnīm ,

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ۝٢٨

عَيۡنًا يَّشۡرَبُ بِهَا الۡمُقَرَّبُوۡنَؕ‏ ۝٢٨

83:28 a spring from which will drink those who are blessed with nearness.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ ۝٢٩

اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ اَجۡرَمُوۡا كَانُوۡا مِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا يَضۡحَكُوۡنَ  ۖ‏ ۝٢٩

83:29 Indeed those who were guilty used to laugh at those who believed,

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ ۝٣٠

وَاِذَا مَرُّوۡا بِهِمۡ يَتَغَامَزُوۡنَ  ۖ‏ ۝٣٠

83:30 and when they passed by them, they used to wink at one another,

وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ ۝٣١

وَاِذَا انۡقَلَبُوۡۤا اِلٰٓى اَهۡلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوۡا فَكِهِيۡنَ  ۖ‏ ۝٣١

83:31 and when they went back to their family, they went enjoying their mockery,

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ ۝٣٢

وَاِذَا رَاَوۡهُمۡ قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّ هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ لَـضَآلُّوۡنَۙ‏ ۝٣٢

83:32 and when they saw them, they said, “Surely these are the ones who have gone astray”

وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَٰفِظِينَ ۝٣٣

وَمَاۤ اُرۡسِلُوۡا عَلَيۡهِمۡ حٰفِظِيۡنَۙ‏ ۝٣٣

83:33 while they were not sent as watchmen over them.

فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ ۝٣٤

فَالۡيَوۡمَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا مِنَ الۡكُفَّارِ يَضۡحَكُوۡنَۙ‏ ۝٣٤

83:34 So, today those who believed will laugh at the disbelievers.

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ ۝٣٥

عَلَى الۡاَرَآٮِٕكِۙ يَنۡظُرُوۡنَؕ‏ ۝٣٥

83:35 While (sitting) on thrones, they will be seeing

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ ۝٣٦

هَلۡ ثُوِّبَ الۡكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوۡا يَفۡعَلُوۡنَ‏ ۝٣٦

83:36 whether the disbelievers have been paid back for what they used to do.
