78. An-Naba

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ۝١

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُوۡنَ​ۚ‏ ۝١

78:1 About what are they asking each other?

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ۝٢

عَنِ النَّبَاِ الۡعَظِيۡمِۙ‏ ۝٢

78:2 About the Great Event

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ ۝٣

الَّذِىۡ هُمۡ فِيۡهِ مُخۡتَلِفُوۡنَؕ‏ ۝٣

78:3 in which they dispute!

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ۝٤

كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُوۡنَۙ‏ ۝٤

78:4 Indeed they will soon know.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ۝٥

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُوۡنَ‏ ۝٥

78:5 Again, indeed they will soon know.

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَٰدًا ۝٦

اَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ الۡاَرۡضَ مِهٰدًا ۙ‏ ۝٦

78:6 Did We not make the earth a floor,

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا ۝٧

وَّالۡجِبَالَ اَوۡتَادًا ۙ‏ ۝٧

78:7 and the mountains bulwarks?

وَخَلَقْنَٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ۝٨

وَّخَلَقۡنٰكُمۡ اَزۡوَاجًا ۙ‏ ۝٨

78:8 And We have created you in pairs,

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا ۝٩

وَّجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتًا ۙ‏ ۝٩

78:9 and made your sleep a source of rest,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا ۝١٠

وَّجَعَلۡنَا الَّيۡلَ لِبَاسًا ۙ‏ ۝١٠

78:10 and made the night a covering,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا ۝١١

وَّجَعَلۡنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا‏ ۝١١

78:11 and made the day a source of livelihood.

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا ۝١٢

وَّبَنَيۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعًا شِدَادًا ۙ‏ ۝١٢

78:12 And We have built seven strong (skies),

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا ۝١٣

وَّ جَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجًا وَّهَّاجًا ۙ‏ ۝١٣

78:13 and created a luminous lamp (the sun).

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا ۝١٤

وَّاَنۡزَلۡنَا مِنَ الۡمُعۡصِرٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا ۙ‏ ۝١٤

78:14 And We have sent down abundant water from the rain-laden clouds,

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا ۝١٥

لِّـنُخۡرِجَ بِهٖ حَبًّا وَّنَبَاتًا ۙ‏ ۝١٥

78:15 so that We bring out therewith grain and vegetation,

وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا ۝١٦

وَّجَنّٰتٍ اَلۡفَافًا ؕ‏ ۝١٦

78:16 and thick gardens.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتًا ۝١٧

اِنَّ يَوۡمَ الۡفَصۡلِ كَانَ مِيۡقَاتًا ۙ‏ ۝١٧

78:17 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time,

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا ۝١٨

يَّوۡمَ يُنۡفَخُ فِى الصُّوۡرِ فَتَاۡتُوۡنَ اَفۡوَاجًا ۙ‏ ۝١٨

78:18 a day when the trumpet will be blown, so you will come in multitudes,

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا ۝١٩

وَّفُتِحَتِ السَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ اَبۡوَابًا ۙ‏ ۝١٩

78:19 and the sky will be opened, so it will become as gates,

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا ۝٢٠

وَّ سُيِّرَتِ الۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا ؕ‏ ۝٢٠

78:20 and the mountains will be set in motion, so they will be as mirage.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا ۝٢١

اِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادًا ۙ‏ ۝٢١

78:21 Surely Jahannam (the Hell) lurks in ambush.

لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا ۝٢٢

لِّلطّٰغِيۡنَ مَاٰبًا ۙ‏ ۝٢٢

78:22 (It is) abode for the rebellious people

لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا ۝٢٣

لّٰبِثِيۡنَ فِيۡهَاۤ اَحۡقَابًا​ ۚ‏ ۝٢٣

78:23 who will be abiding in it for ages.

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا ۝٢٤

لَا يَذُوۡقُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا بَرۡدًا وَّلَا شَرَابًا ۙ‏ ۝٢٤

78:24 They will taste nothing cool in it, nor a drink,

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا ۝٢٥

اِلَّا حَمِيۡمًا وَّغَسَّاقًا ۙ‏ ۝٢٥

78:25 except boiling water and pus,

جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا ۝٢٦

جَزَآءً وِّفَاقًا ؕ‏ ۝٢٦

78:26 this being a punishment, fully commensurate (with their deeds).

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا ۝٢٧

اِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۡا لَا يَرۡجُوۡنَ حِسَابًا ۙ‏ ۝٢٧

78:27 They did not expect (to face) accounting (of their deeds),

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا ۝٢٨

وَّكَذَّبُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا ؕ‏ ۝٢٨

78:28 and they rejected Our signs totally.

وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَٰهُ كِتَٰبًا ۝٢٩

وَكُلَّ شَىۡءٍ اَحۡصَيۡنٰهُ كِتٰبًا ۙ‏ ۝٢٩

78:29 And everything (from their deeds) is thoroughly recorded by Us in writing.

فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا ۝٣٠

فَذُوۡقُوۡا فَلَنۡ نَّزِيۡدَكُمۡ اِلَّا عَذَابًا‏ ۝٣٠

78:30 “So now taste! We will add nothing to you but torment.”

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا ۝٣١

اِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ مَفَازًا ۙ‏ ۝٣١

78:31 Of course, the God-fearing will have great achievement,

حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَٰبًا ۝٣٢

حَدَآٮِٕقَ وَاَعۡنَابًا ۙ‏ ۝٣٢

78:32 -gardens and grapes,

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا ۝٣٣

وَّكَوَاعِبَ اَتۡرَابًا ۙ‏ ۝٣٣

78:33 and buxom maidens of matching age,

وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا ۝٣٤

وَّكَاۡسًا دِهَاقًا ؕ‏ ۝٣٤

78:34 and goblets filled up to the brim.

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا ۝٣٥

لَا يَسۡمَعُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا لَـغۡوًا وَّلَا كِذّٰبًا​ ۚ‏ ۝٣٥

78:35 They will not hear any vain talk therein, nor lies,

جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا ۝٣٦

جَزَآءً مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا ۙ‏ ۝٣٦

78:36 this being a reward from their Lord, a well calculated grant,

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا ۝٣٧

رَّبِّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا الرَّحۡمٰنِ​ لَا يَمۡلِكُوۡنَ مِنۡهُ خِطَابًا​ ۚ‏ ۝٣٧

78:37 (from) the Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, the All-Merciful. No one will have power to address Him,

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا ۝٣٨

يَوۡمَ يَقُوۡمُ الرُّوۡحُ وَالۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةُ صَفًّا ؕۙ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُوۡنَ اِلَّا مَنۡ اَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحۡمٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا​‏ ۝٣٨

78:38 on the Day when the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows. They will not speak, except the one who is permitted by the RaHmān (the All-Merciful Allah) and speaks aright.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا ۝٣٩

ذٰلِكَ الۡيَوۡمُ الۡحَـقُّ​ ۚ فَمَنۡ شَآءَ اتَّخَذَ اِلٰى رَبِّهٖ مَاٰبًا‏  ۝٣٩

78:39 That is the Day that is sure to come. So whoever so wishes may take refuge with his Lord.

إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا ۝٤٠

اِنَّاۤ اَنۡذَرۡنٰـكُمۡ عَذَابًا قَرِيۡبًا ۖۚ  يَّوۡمَ يَنۡظُرُ الۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدٰهُ وَيَقُوۡلُ الۡـكٰفِرُ يٰلَيۡتَنِىۡ كُنۡتُ تُرٰبًا‏ ۝٤٠

78:40 We have warned you of an approaching torment (that will be inflicted) on a day when one will see what his hands have sent ahead, and the disbeliever will say, “O would that I had turned into dust.”
