بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ١
لَاۤ اُقۡسِمُ بِهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِۙ ١
90:1 I swear by this city,
وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ٢
وَاَنۡتَ حِلٌّ ۢ بِهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِۙ ٢
90:2 -and (O Prophet,) you are going to be allowed (to fight) in this city-
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ ٣
وَوَالِدٍ وَّمَا وَلَدَ ۙ ٣
90:3 and by the father and all those he begot,
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ ٤
لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا الۡاِنۡسَانَ فِىۡ كَبَدٍؕ ٤
90:4 indeed We have created man (to live) in hard struggle.
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ ٥
اَيَحۡسَبُ اَنۡ لَّنۡ يَّقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ اَحَدٌ ۘ ٥
90:5 Does he think that no one has power over him?
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا ٦
يَقُوۡلُ اَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا ؕ ٦
90:6 He says, “I have spent a lot of wealth.”
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ٧
اَيَحۡسَبُ اَنۡ لَّمۡ يَرَهٗۤ اَحَدٌ ؕ ٧
90:7 Does he think that no one has seen him?
أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ ٨
اَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلۡ لَّهٗ عَيۡنَيۡنِۙ ٨
90:8 Did We not make for him two eyes,
وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ ٩
وَلِسَانًا وَّشَفَتَيۡنِۙ ٩
90:9 and one tongue and two lips,
وَهَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ ١٠
وَهَدَيۡنٰهُ النَّجۡدَيۡنِۚ ١٠
90:10 and showed him the two ways?
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ ١١
فَلَا اقۡتَحَمَ الۡعَقَبَةَ ۖ ١١
90:11 Yet he did not make his way through the steep course,- -
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ ١٢
وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا الۡعَقَبَةُ ؕ ١٢
90:12 - And what may let you know what the steep course is?
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ١٣
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ۙ ١٣
90:13 (It is) freeing of the neck of a slave,
أَوْ إِطْعَٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ ١٤
اَوۡ اِطۡعٰمٌ فِىۡ يَوۡمٍ ذِىۡ مَسۡغَبَةٍ ۙ ١٤
90:14 or giving food in a day of hunger
يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ ١٥
يَّتِيۡمًا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ ۙ ١٥
90:15 to an orphan near of kin,
أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ ١٦
اَوۡ مِسۡكِيۡنًا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٍ ؕ ١٦
90:16 or to a needy person lying in dust- -
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ ١٧
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَتَوَاصَوۡا بِالصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡا بِالۡمَرۡحَمَةِ ؕ ١٧
90:17 - then he did not join those who believe and advise each other to be patient and advise each other to be merciful.
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ ١٨
اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡمَيۡمَنَةِ ؕ ١٨
90:18 Those are the People of the Right Hand. (i.e. their books of deeds will be given in their right hands)
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ١٩
وَالَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا هُمۡ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡمَشۡـَٔـمَةِ ؕ ١٩
90:19 As for those who reject Our verses, they are the People of the Left Hand. (i.e. their books of deeds will be given in their left hands.)
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ ٢٠
عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٌ مُّؤۡصَدَةٌ ٢٠
90:20 Upon them will be the Fire, enveloping them with closed exits.
