Privacy notice
Version 2026-11. This notice should be reviewed by a data protection adviser before accounts are opened widely.
The short version
- You can read everything and ask questions without an account. Questions are anonymous: we don't store your name, email or IP address with them.
- If you create an account, we store your email address, the name you choose, and what you save: notes, bookmarks, memorisation progress, reading plans and study circle posts.
- We use it only to give you these features. We don't sell it, show ads, or track you around the web.
- You can download everything or delete your account, and everything in it, at any time from your account page.
Who can have an account
Accounts are for people aged 16 and over. In Ireland, 16 is the age at which you can agree to your own information being stored online. If you are younger, you can still use the whole site and ask questions anonymously.
What we store, and why
- Email address: to send you sign-in codes. It is never shown to anyone.
- The name you choose: shown only to members of study circles you join. It can be a nickname.
- Your notes, bookmarks, hifz progress and reading plan: private to you. A note you choose to share by link can be read by anyone with the link, without your name or email. You can stop sharing at any time.
- Study circle posts: seen by the members of that circle. The circle's teacher can remove posts and members.
- Sign-in records: kept by our sign-in service to keep your account secure.
The legal basis is your consent, which you give when you create an account and can withdraw by deleting your account.
Where it is kept
On Amazon Web Services in Ireland (the EU), encrypted. Our sign-in emails are sent through Amazon's email service. Backups are kept for up to 35 days, after which deleted information is gone for good.
Your browser
We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. Your browser keeps your sign-in and your reading choices (translation, script, text size) on your device so the site remembers them.
Your rights
You can see, download, correct or delete your information at any time from your account page. You can also ask us about it through the Ask page (choose “Not sure” as the topic). If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland.
