44. Ad-Dukhaan

حمٓ ۝١

حٰمٓ ​ ۛ​ۚ‏ ۝١

44:1 Hā Mīm .

وَٱلْكِتَٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ ۝٢

وَالۡكِتٰبِ الۡمُبِيۡنِ ​ ۛ​ۙ‏ ۝٢

44:2 By the manifest Book,

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ ۝٣

اِنَّاۤ اَنۡزَلۡنٰهُ فِىۡ لَيۡلَةٍ مُّبٰـرَكَةٍ​ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُنۡذِرِيۡنَ‏  ۝٣

44:3 We have sent it down in a blessed night, (because) We had to warn (people).

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ ۝٤

فِيۡهَا يُفۡرَقُ كُلُّ اَمۡرٍ حَكِيۡمٍۙ‏ ۝٤

44:4 In that (night), every wise matter is allocated

أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ ۝٥

اَمۡرًا مِّنۡ عِنۡدِنَا​ؕ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُرۡسِلِيۡنَ​ۚ‏ ۝٥

44:5 through a command from Us. We were to send the Messenger

رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ۝٦

رَحۡمَةً مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَ​ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ السَّمِيۡعُ الۡعَلِيۡمُۙ‏ ۝٦

44:6 as a mercy from your Lord, -Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing-

رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ ۝٧

رَبِّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا​ۘ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ مُّوۡقِنِيۡنَ‏  ۝٧

44:7 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of whatever there is between them, if you are to believe.

لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ۝٨

لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ يُحۡىٖ وَيُمِيۡتُ​ؕ رَبُّكُمۡ وَرَبُّ اٰبَآٮِٕكُمُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ‏ ۝٨

44:8 There is no god, but He. He gives life and brings death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.

بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ ۝٩

بَلۡ هُمۡ فِىۡ شَكٍّ يَّلۡعَبُوۡنَ‏ ۝٩

44:9 But they, being in doubt, are playing around.

فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ ۝١٠

فَارۡتَقِبۡ يَوۡمَ تَاۡتِى السَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِيۡنٍۙ‏ ۝١٠

44:10 So, wait for a day when the sky will come up with a visible smoke

يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ۝١١

يَغۡشَى النَّاسَ​ؕ هٰذَا عَذَابٌ اَلِيۡمٌ‏ ۝١١

44:11 that will envelop people. This is a painful punishment.

رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ ۝١٢

رَبَّنَا اكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا الۡعَذَابَ اِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ‏ ۝١٢

44:12 (Then they will say,) “O our Lord, remove from us the punishment; we will truly believe.”

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ ۝١٣

اَنّٰى لَهُمُ الذِّكۡرٰى وَقَدۡ جَآءَهُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ مُّبِيۡنٌۙ‏ ۝١٣

44:13 How will they take lesson, while there has already come to them a messenger making things clear?

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ ۝١٤

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوۡا عَنۡهُ وَقَالُوۡا مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجۡنُوۡنٌ​ۘ‏ ۝١٤

44:14 Then they turned away from him, and said, “(He is) tutored, crazy.”

إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ ۝١٥

اِنَّا كَاشِفُوا الۡعَذَابِ قَلِيۡلًا اِنَّكُمۡ عَآٮِٕدُوۡنَ​ۘ‏ ۝١٥

44:15 (Well,) We are going to remove the punishment for a while, (but) you will certainly go back (to your original position).

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ ۝١٦

يَوۡمَ نَبۡطِشُ الۡبَطۡشَةَ الۡكُبۡـرٰى​ۚ اِنَّا مُنۡتَقِمُوۡنَ‏ ۝١٦

44:16 (Then,) the day We will seize (you) with the greatest seizure, We will take vengeance.

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ ۝١٧

وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَ جَآءَهُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ كَرِيۡمٌۙ‏  ۝١٧

44:17 And We tested the people of Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) prior to them, and a noble messenger came to them

أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ ۝١٨

اَنۡ اَدُّوۡۤا اِلَىَّ عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ​ؕ اِنِّىۡ لَـكُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ اَمِيۡنٌۙ‏  ۝١٨

44:18 saying, “Deliver to me the servants of Allah. I am an honest messenger to you,”

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ ۝١٩

وَّاَنۡ لَّا تَعۡلُوۡا عَلَى اللّٰهِ​ۚ اِنِّىۡۤ اٰتِيۡكُمۡ بِسُلۡطٰنٍ مُّبِيۡنٍ​ۚ‏  ۝١٩

44:19 and saying, “Do not be haughty against Allah. I bring to you a clear proof.

وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ ۝٢٠

وَاِنِّىۡ عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّىۡ وَرَبِّكُمۡ اَنۡ تَرۡجُمُوۡنِ ۚ‏ ۝٢٠

44:20 And I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me to death.

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ ۝٢١

وَاِنۡ لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُوۡا لِىۡ فَاعۡتَزِلُوۡنِ‏ ۝٢١

44:21 And if you do not believe in me, then keep away from me.”

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ ۝٢٢

فَدَعَا رَبَّهٗۤ اَنَّ هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ قَوۡمٌ مُّجۡرِمُوۡنَ‏ ۝٢٢

44:22 Then he prayed to his Lord saying, “These are a guilty people.”

فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ ۝٢٣

فَاَسۡرِ بِعِبَادِىۡ لَيۡلًا اِنَّكُمۡ مُّتَّبَعُوۡنَۙ‏ ۝٢٣

44:23 (So, Allah answered his prayer saying,) “Now, take away my servants at night. You will certainly be chased,

وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ ۝٢٤

وَاتۡرُكِ الۡبَحۡرَ رَهۡوًا​ؕ اِنَّهُمۡ جُنۡدٌ مُّغۡرَقُوۡنَ‏ ۝٢٤

44:24 and leave the sea in the state of stillness; they are an army that is sure to be drowned.”

كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ ۝٢٥

كَمۡ تَرَكُوۡا مِنۡ جَنّٰتٍ وَّعُيُوۡنٍۙ‏ ۝٢٥

44:25 How many gardens and fountains have they left behind-

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ ۝٢٦

وَّزُرُوۡعٍ وَّمَقَامٍ كَرِيۡمٍۙ‏ ۝٢٦

44:26 - and how many fields and noble sites,

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَٰكِهِينَ ۝٢٧

وَّنَعۡمَةٍ كَانُوۡا فِيۡهَا فٰكِهِيۡنَۙ‏ ۝٢٧

44:27 and how many a luxury they used to rejoice in!

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ ۝٢٨

كَذٰلِكَ​ وَاَوۡرَثۡنٰهَا قَوۡمًا اٰخَرِيۡنَ‏ ۝٢٨

44:28 This is how it happened. And We made other people inherit all this.

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ ۝٢٩

فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ السَّمَآءُ وَالۡاَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُوۡا مُنۡظَرِيۡنَ‏  ۝٢٩

44:29 So, neither the sky and earth wept over them, nor were they given a respite.

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ ۝٣٠

وَلَقَدۡ نَجَّيۡنَا بَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ مِنَ الۡعَذَابِ الۡمُهِيۡنِۙ‏ ۝٣٠

44:30 And We delivered the children of Isrā’īl from the humiliating punishment,

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ ۝٣١

مِنۡ فِرۡعَوۡنَ​ؕ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ الۡمُسۡرِفِيۡنَ‏ ۝٣١

44:31 from Fir‘aun. Indeed, he was haughty, one of the transgressors.

وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ۝٣٢

وَلَقَدِ اخۡتَرۡنٰهُمۡ عَلٰى عِلۡمٍ عَلَى الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَ​ۚ‏ ۝٣٢

44:32 And We chose them, with knowledge, above all the worlds.

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ ۝٣٣

وَاٰتَيۡنٰهُمۡ مِّنَ الۡاٰيٰتِ مَا فِيۡهِ بَلٰٓؤٌا مُّبِيۡنٌ‏ ۝٣٣

44:33 And We gave them the clear signs in which there was a manifest blessing.

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ ۝٣٤

اِنَّ هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ لَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَۙ‏ ۝٣٤

44:34 These people say,

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ ۝٣٥

اِنۡ هِىَ اِلَّا مَوۡتَتُنَا الۡاُوۡلٰى وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُنۡشَرِيۡنَ‏ ۝٣٥

44:35 “There is nothing more than our first death, and we are not going to be resurrected.

فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ ۝٣٦

فَاۡتُوۡا بِاٰبَآٮِٕنَاۤ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ صٰدِقِيۡنَ‏ ۝٣٦

44:36 So, (O believers,) bring our fathers, if you are true (in your belief in resurrection.)”

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ ۝٣٧

اَهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ اَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعٍۙ وَّ الَّذِيۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِهِمۡ​ؕ اَهۡلَكۡنٰهُمۡ​ اِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۡا مُجۡرِمِيۡنَ‏ ۝٣٧

44:37 Are they better or the people of Tubba‘ and those who were before them? We have destroyed them. They were guilty indeed.

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ ۝٣٨

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لٰعِبِيۡنَ‏ ۝٣٨

44:38 And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them just as players.

مَا خَلَقْنَٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ۝٣٩

مَا خَلَقۡنٰهُمَاۤ اِلَّا بِالۡحَقِّ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ‏  ۝٣٩

44:39 We did not create them but with true purpose, but most of them do not know.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ۝٤٠

اِنَّ يَوۡمَ الۡفَصۡلِ مِيۡقَاتُهُمۡ اَجۡمَعِيۡنَۙ‏ ۝٤٠

44:40 The Day of Decision is the appointed time for all of them-

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ ۝٤١

يَوۡمَ لَا يُغۡنِىۡ مَوۡلًى عَنۡ مَّوۡلًى شَيۡــًٔا وَّلَا هُمۡ يُنۡصَرُوۡنَۙ‏  ۝٤١

44:41 the day when no close relation will be of any use to any close relation, nor will they be helped,

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ۝٤٢

اِلَّا مَنۡ رَّحِمَ اللّٰهُ​ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الرَّحِيۡمُ‏ ۝٤٢

44:42 except the One on whom Allah has mercy. Of course, He is the All-Mighty, the Very-Merciful.

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ ۝٤٣

اِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّوۡمِۙ‏ ۝٤٣

44:43 Indeed the tree of zaqqūm

طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ ۝٤٤

طَعَامُ الۡاَثِيۡمِ ۛۚ   ۖ‏ ۝٤٤

44:44 is the food of the sinful,

كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ ۝٤٥

كَالۡمُهۡلِ ۛۚ يَغۡلِىۡ فِى الۡبُطُوۡنِۙ‏ ۝٤٥

44:45 like dregs of oil. It will boil in the bellies

كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ ۝٤٦

كَغَلۡىِ الۡحَمِيۡمِ‏ ۝٤٦

44:46 like the boiling of hot water.

خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ۝٤٧

خُذُوۡهُ فَاعۡتِلُوۡهُ اِلٰى سَوَآءِ الۡجَحِيۡمِ   ۖ‏ ۝٤٧

44:47 (It will be said to angels,) “Seize him, and drag him into the midst of the Hell.

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ ۝٤٨

ثُمَّ صُبُّوۡا فَوۡقَ رَاۡسِهٖ مِنۡ عَذَابِ الۡحَمِيۡمِؕ‏ ۝٤٨

44:48 Then pour on his head some torment of boiling water.”

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ ۝٤٩

ذُقۡ ۖۚ اِنَّكَ اَنۡتَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡكَرِيۡمُ‏ ۝٤٩

44:49 “Have a taste! You are the ‘man of might’, the ‘man of honour’.

إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ ۝٥٠

اِنَّ هٰذَا مَا كُنۡتُمۡ بِهٖ تَمۡتَرُوۡنَ‏ ۝٥٠

44:50 This is the thing about which you used to be skeptic.”

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ ۝٥١

اِنَّ الۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ فِىۡ مَقَامٍ اَمِيۡنٍۙ‏ ۝٥١

44:51 Indeed the God-fearing will be in a place free from fear,

فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ ۝٥٢

فِىۡ جَنّٰتٍ وَّعُيُوۡنٍ ۙ ۚ‏ ۝٥٢

44:52 in gardens and fountains.

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ ۝٥٣

يَّلۡبَسُوۡنَ مِنۡ سُنۡدُسٍ وَّاِسۡتَبۡرَقٍ مُّتَقٰبِلِيۡنَۚ ۙ‏ ۝٥٣

44:53 They will be dressed in fine silk and thick silk, facing each other.

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ ۝٥٤

كَذٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجۡنٰهُمۡ بِحُوۡرٍ عِيۡنٍؕ‏ ۝٥٤

44:54 Thus (it will happen,) and We will marry them with houris having big dark eyes.

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ ۝٥٥

يَدۡعُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا بِكُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ اٰمِنِيۡنَۙ‏ ۝٥٥

44:55 They will call therein for every fruit peacefully.

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ۝٥٦

لَا يَذُوۡقُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا الۡمَوۡتَ اِلَّا الۡمَوۡتَةَ الۡاُوۡلٰى​ ۚ وَوَقٰٮهُمۡ عَذَابَ الۡجَحِيۡمِۙ‏ ۝٥٦

44:56 They will not taste death therein beyond the first death (they faced in the world). And He (Allah) will save them from the torment of Hell,

فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ۝٥٧

فَضۡلًا مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَ ​ؕ ذٰ لِكَ هُوَ الۡفَوۡزُ الۡعَظِيۡمُ‏ ۝٥٧

44:57 as a favour from your Lord. That is the great achievement.

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٥٨

فَاِنَّمَا يَسَّرۡنٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَذَكَّرُوۡنَ‏ ۝٥٨

44:58 So, We had made it (the Qur’ān) easy in your tongue, so that they may take lesson.

فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ ۝٥٩

فَارۡتَقِبۡ اِنَّهُمۡ مُّرۡتَقِبُوۡنَ‏ ۝٥٩

44:59 Now wait. They too are waiting.
